How are you maintaining a happy, healthy home? We all know that our family’s health and happiness are pretty much the most important things ever. So what are you doing to ACTIVELY keep your family happy and healthy?
As a wife and a mother, I take preventative measures to make sure that we all stay happy and healthy by paying attention to the ingredients that are in the products that we put both ONTO our bodies, as well as INSIDE our bodies. Toxic chemicals are found everywhere from the air we breathe, the food we eat, and especially in most everyday household products that we use. You can do a quick Google search for “the dangers of the ingredients found in household items” and you will get HUNDREDS of articles that warn you how dangerous these ingredients are and why.
We can’t avoid toxins completely. They are everywhere! But we can avoid many of these toxins simply by educating ourselves on the ingredients, and shopping differently. I realize that taking the time to look up all of those ingredients can be daunting, but I did it! I had to! My family’s health was in a bad place and I needed answers. Now I use the Think Dirty app on my phone. If I am at the store and want to look up how safely a product is rated, I just open that app and scan the barcode.
What I found in my research is this: Women especially come into contact with over 300 toxins per day, many of which are applied to our bodies before we have even had a chance to eat breakfast. Most of these toxins are known carcinogens yet we still keep applying them because we either have no idea how dangerous it can be, or we simply think that the risk is worth it because we love the way that shampoo smells or how that foundation looks on our face. I have even heard some people say that their mother and grandmother never had any trouble with products so they don’t believe they will now. The problem with this is that manufacturers are not the same as they were fifty years ago. Science is also way more advanced today and the proof is coming out.
Toxins affect our health in an extreme way. Many toxins may be deemed safe in small amounts, but what exactly does that mean? If you are applying ten different products that contain that toxin every day, is that still considered a small amount? What if we use those same ten toxins every single day for twenty years? Is that still considered a safe amount? YOU have to be your own advocate for your health.
These toxins are affecting your endocrine system, which in turn affects nearly every organ in your body. Endocrine disruptors are known to cause some serious problems such as infertility, diabetes, liver function, auto-immune disease, neurological disorders, kidney function, the ability for our bodies to fight off infections, etc. They can even disrupt your energy levels and emotional health. But most of these problems that occur are not problems that can be seen until it is too late, and by then we have a ton of symptoms that could be avoided completely. Even if these toxins do not cause us to get cancer, they are still negatively affecting our health in ways that cause our immune systems to weaken.
When I first began researching the negative effects of harmful toxins in our everyday household items, it was because myself AND my daughter were staying sick. If there was a germ in the room you could pretty much guarantee that it was going to latch itself into our bodies and multiply like crazy. We STAYED sick! Our immune systems were failing us miserably. Fast forward five years later and I can’t even tell you the last time I have been sick.
It is important to advocate for your own health and the health of your family. Nobody else out there is going to do that for you. If you want to learn more about this then stay tuned. I plan to share a lot about how we have created a happy healthy home simply by reading labels and knowing what is safe and what isn’t.
