How did this even happen? It seems like yesterday you were a baby, and today you are twelve years old!! I write an open letter to my daughter on her birthday because I want you to always remember how much I love you.
You were our surprise baby! You were sent directly from God. We thought we were finished having babies, but God had other plans. Little did I know that my pregnancy with you would actually save my life. I know I tell you this story a lot, but I want you to always be able to see God’s hand in your own life. The doctors found something on my uterus that could have potentially killed me if it weren’t for the fact that I became pregnant with you. I was awful about going to the doctor regularly, so this pregnancy happened just in the nick of time. You, my sweet child, were my miracle baby.
I hope you always look for God’s hand in your life. I stand amazed at how in tune to His presence you always are. The way that you recognize how certain blessings in your life could have never been possible without the hurtful moments that brought us there… the way that you always correct me when I am not showing much grace toward people who have tried to hurt our feelings… the way that you love people who are not easy to love… YOU, my sweet daughter, are truly a child of God. I am supposed to be teaching YOU, but the reality is that you are the one teaching me!
God has big plans for you! I have never known a child your age who is so in tune with God, and who is also capable of hearing His voice. I pray that you never lose site of that, and that you always watch and listen for Him just as you have done. If you continue to always look for the role that God is playing in your life, you will always be happy and blessed.
Happy Birthday Peyton! I love you so much. You are kind. You are loved. You are precious! You have a heart of gold, and one day that heart of yours is going to do big things for God’s kingdom. I hope that I get to witness all of that!
