With all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I realized yesterday that I haven’t really given you much in the way of an update on our adoption of Riley. So let me fix that! There are sooooo many of you who have been praying for us as well as donating to our adoption fund, and I know that you are following along our journey!
On December 19th Jason and I went to court for our first court appearance in this adoption. We were really unsure of what to expect because Riley still has a mother out there somewhere in the unknown. We were required to pay for a court appointed attorney to represent the biological mother so there was always the possibility that her mother could have been there. To be honest we were kind of hoping that she would be, but she is nowhere to be found. She abandoned Riley years ago and has never attempted to contact her in any way. The court appointed attorney showed evidence that he went above and beyond to attempt to locate her, but as usual she is avoiding being located.
Jason and I were awarded sole legal custody of Riley, and the judgement that our attorney filed also included our intent to adopt. This was a HUGE first step toward our adoption of her, and we are all celebrating this victory! Up until this point we were always facing the risk of her being snatched away from us at any given time. This is a huge weight lifted off of our shoulders, and we finally feel like we can breathe again. We feel like we have a little bit of security now.
Riley is such an amazing, precious ten year old who has been through so much already in her short little life. Having been abandoned by her mother and later walking in to wake her father one morning only to find her father deceased, she is probably one of the strongest little girls I have ever met. She has been living with us for almost two years and she is thriving! We love her like she is our own, and we can’t wait for the day that she can share our last name!
Thank you all so very much for supporting us in this adoption. Jason and i NEVER intended on adopting a child. This has totally been orchestrated by God, and He has used many of you to help support us in making this happen. Because of you Riley will soon be an official Robinette, totally and completely loved by friends, family, and community.
